About this book
The story
Letters from the heart of seventeenth-century French power: the correspondence between Cardinal Mazarin, chief minister to the young Louis XIV, and Antoine d'Aumont, Marshal of France. They are followed by a selection of letters written to d'Aumont by the King, the Queen Regent, Gaston d'Orléans, Le Tellier and Louvois, and, intriguingly, Oliver Cromwell.
The text is in French, reproduced in facsimile from an original library copy, so expect old stamps, the odd blurred page and the texture of a historical document. A fine primary source for anyone curious about how France was governed, and soldiered, in the age of Mazarin.
