About this book

The story

Summer is coming to Cape Vincent, on a remote peninsula in New York's Thousand Islands, and so is Mikko Helle: thirty, wealthy, a retired ice hockey star moving into a lavishly renovated waterfront house. Nicole Durham, a local mother of two, pulls every string she has to become his cleaner. The money matters, but what she really wants is to expose a secret before time runs out. Then she disturbs an intruder, and State Police Investigator Tim Wellington finds the bones of an unidentified young woman in the basement.

This opens Tessa Wegert's new North Country series, set in a closed little world of rising lakeside heat and small-town watchfulness, where the celebrity, the local and the thief are all hiding something. It suits anyone who likes the classic shape of a whodunnit given a modern, uneasy edge.
