About this book

The story

Summer is coming to Cape Vincent, a remote peninsula in New York's Thousand Islands, and so is Mikko Helle: thirty, wealthy and a retired ice hockey star, moving into a lavishly renovated house on the water. Nobody in town really knows him. Nicole Durham, a local mother of two, pulls every string she has to become his cleaner, and not only for the wages. She has a secret to expose and little time left to do it.

Then Nicole disturbs an intruder, and State Police Investigator Tim Wellington finds the bones of an unidentified young woman deep in the mansion's basement. The newcomer, the local and the thief all have something to hide. The first North Country novel, it will suit anyone who likes a tight circle of suspects, small-town tensions and a mystery that keeps its cards close to its chest.
