The Killing Time

Ali Dawson leads a police cold case unit whose investigations sometimes require travelling back in time. Since their technical expert, Jones, became stranded in Victorian London, time travel has been banned, so Ali turns to a present-day death instead: a young man who fell from a high building, and whom she believes was persuaded by the psychic medium Barry Power that he could fly.

When her cat, Terry, goes missing, Ali makes a brief trip back in time that goes badly wrong, landing her in Victorian London with Jones, Power and the mysterious Cain Templeton. This is the second Ali Dawson mystery, following The Frozen People, and it combines a sharp, witty crime plot with an uncanny sense of the impossible.
