The Hollow

Harry Bosch returns to the place that made him a cop.
Reading guide
The opening lays out the premise and Bosch's backstory in full, so the book can be read without knowing him well, though readers who have followed Bosch will feel its history most keenly.
A settlement for former residents of MacLaren Children's Center reminds Harry Bosch of the boy named Chops, whose body was found in the hollow beneath a staircase. Bosch sets out to reopen the case and learn the truth, even though the killer may be long dead.

Description

When a settlement for former residents of MacLaren Children's Center reaches Harry Bosch, he turns down the $400,000 on offer. He wants justice for Chops, a boy found dead in the hidden space under a staircase the staff used for punishment, a place the children called the hollow. The death was covered up and never solved, and Bosch is determined to reopen it, even though the killer may be long dead.

As he works through the old files, Bosch follows the trail of a predator who survived the institution and went on to a life of vicious crime. Connelly sends his detective back to the place that scarred him, and for readers who have followed Bosch this far, it is the most personal case of all.
