The Colour of Hope

A change of scene can mend a life.
Reading guide
Nothing in the text suggests an earlier book is needed, so it can be read on its own as a complete novel.
Sabrina Thompson, isolated after her husband's death, arrives in a fishing village in south-west France and stays at the Château de Bonport. There she meets Xavier de Bonport, whose business failure and collapsed marriage have left him unsettled. As they are inspired by each other and by the village, Sabrina finds purpose in community life and Xavier works out what he needs to take his next step.

Description

Grief has left Sabrina Thompson, a Los Angeles gallery owner, isolated and adrift since her husband's death. She escapes to a fishing village in south-west France and takes refuge at the Château de Bonport, where she meets its owner, Xavier de Bonport. He is still reeling from the collapse of his business during the pandemic, a blow that finished off his faltering marriage.

Both are starting over, and the village, with its history and charm, does much of the quiet work. Sabrina finds purpose by throwing herself into community life, while Xavier comes to see what he needs in order to move forward in his work and his heart. Danielle Steel, whose books have sold more than a billion copies, writes here about second chances and the courage to look for joy again.
