About this book
The story
Grief has left Sabrina Thompson, a Los Angeles gallery owner, isolated and adrift since her husband's death. She escapes to a fishing village in south-west France and takes refuge at the Château de Bonport, whose owner, Xavier de Bonport, is still reeling from the collapse of his business during the pandemic, a blow that finished off his faltering marriage.
Both are starting over, and the village itself, with its history and charm, does much of the quiet work. Sabrina begins to find purpose by throwing herself into the life of the community, while Xavier comes to see what he needs in order to move forward, in his work and in his heart. Danielle Steel, whose books have sold more than a billion copies, writes here about second chances and the courage to look for joy again. A warm, hopeful novel for anyone who believes a change of scene can mend a life.
