Instrument of Peace

Mitch grew up at the Academy of magic rather than with his absent parents, and it is the place he calls home: his friends matter more than his family, and his maths teacher's opinion counts for more than theirs. Then an earthquake tears through the school and nearly kills his little brother. It is no natural disaster but a side effect of the war between Heaven and Hell, and a teacher's rash bargain with a fallen angel to protect the Academy brings the Twisted Curse down on everyone inside.

The rot starts small, with truancy and teachers snapping over trifles, before it spreads to vandalism, riots and worse. As his friends drift and his girlfriend betrays him, Mitch joins the few students the curse seems to spare. A dark school fantasy for anyone who likes their magic academies with real menace in the corridors.
