The Heights

A night concierge lies dead in the lobby of London's most coveted address, a luxury tower facing Hyde Park with an infinity pool, a private cinema and its self-made developer, Allan Franklyn, installed in the penthouse duplex. The residents, among them an art dealer, a young pop star, a foreign heiress and a gangster's wife, expect service and privacy on their own terms. Detective Sergeant Gillian Gish has other ideas.

Her questions begin with a fourth-floor party that ended in a fight, a missing apartment key and an unexplained gap in the security footage, and they lead steadily beneath the gloss. Ian Rankin, long associated with Edinburgh, turns his eye on moneyed London here. A sharp, closed-world mystery for anyone who enjoys watching a good detective unsettle the very rich.
