Regional Orders: Building Security in a New World, Volume 1, examines the shift in global politics following the Cold War. As the bipolar struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union ended, nations began establishing localized security arrangements to better suit their specific needs. This work of international security and regionalism analysis documents the rise of these regional orders and argues that international relations theory must evolve to reflect these changes.

The text employs a comparative approach to study international organization, using a common typology to analyze various regions. By identifying causal variables, the authors predict patterns of conflict and cooperation based on individual regional traits.
