Real witches are among us, and they despise children – a classic tale of courage and cleverness from Roald Dahl.
Reading guide
The Witches is a standalone novel and can be enjoyed on its own.
After losing his parents, a young boy lives with his Norwegian grandmother, who fills his head with warnings about real witches – creatures that look like ordinary women but despise children and seek to destroy them. While on holiday at a seaside hotel in England, he accidentally stumbles into a secret gathering of witches where the Grand High Witch reveals her plan to turn every child in the land into mice. Transformed into a mouse himself, the boy must rely on his grandmother’s wisdom and his own quick thinking to stop the witches’ scheme.
