The Wedding People

A destination wedding, a stranger who isn't supposed to be there, and an unlikely friendship.
Reading guide
The Wedding People is a standalone novel, so there is no order to follow and it can be read on its own.
Phoebe Stone, divorced and unhappy, arrives at a beachside hotel for a wedding and is mistaken for a guest. Lila, the bride, is furious that a stranger could ruin her carefully planned day. As their plans begin to unravel, the two women find an unexpected friendship in each other.

Description

Phoebe Stone arrives at the Cornwall Inn, a grand beachside hotel in Rhode Island, in her best dress and least comfortable shoes, and is promptly mistaken for a wedding guest. In fact she is the only person there who isn't attending the big event. She is divorced, deeply unhappy and has private reasons of her own. For Lila, the bride, who has planned for every conceivable disaster, Phoebe is the one thing she never saw coming.

The Wedding People is a comedy with real darkness beneath it, as two women whose careful plans come apart find an unlikely confidante in each other. The novel is very funny about dysfunctional families, marriage and starting again, and it never goes cheap. It is a warm, sharp read for anyone who likes their laughter with a lump in the throat.
