# The steps

The Steps is Sylvester Stallone's memoir of the years before fame, when he was a young actor with a script he believed in and little else behind him. It follows his unlikely route to stardom and the writing and making of Rocky, the film that made his name, and it is told from the inside, with the long odds he faced set out in full.

Stallone's account moves between hope and hardship, giving a clear picture of how steep those odds were. Readers who have followed Rocky up those famous steps will find the story behind the film here, and anyone curious about how a determined outsider broke into Hollywood will find much of interest. Published by Seven Dials in 2025.
