# The Killing Time

Ali Dawson leads a police cold case unit whose detectives travel back in time to solve crimes that are old enough. Their technical expert, Jones, became stranded in Victorian London, so time travel has been banned and Ali is left with a present-day death to investigate. This is the second Ali Dawson mystery, following The Frozen People, and it keeps the mix of police procedure and the uncanny that made the first book distinctive.

A young man has fallen from a high building, and Ali suspects the psychic medium Barry Power, who convinced him he could fly. Her inquiry takes her to one of Power's shows, where he claims to be in contact with Jones. The book is witty and uncanny, and it suits readers who like crime with a twist of the impossible. Ali also has unfinished business with the darkly mysterious Cain Templeton from an earlier visit to the past.
