# The Curiosity Box: The Seashore

Peter D. Riley takes the seashore as his subject and arranges its finds the way a child might lay out the contents of a curiosity box. A sand lizard hides in the dunes, shells lie scattered across the sand, and crustaceans and seabirds appear as the book moves through the different habitats along the coast. Young readers are invited to pick up each object, look closely and wonder why nature has made it that way.

Full-colour photographs and illustrations give plenty of detail without feeling like a lesson, though the book is rich in science throughout. Written for children at Key Stage 1, it encourages thinking and reasoning alongside noticing, and it makes a good companion before a trip to the beach.
