# The Civil Engineer's Pocket-Book: Of Mensuration, Trigonometry, Surveying, Hydraulics ... Etc.

John Cresson Trautwine, an American civil engineer, first published this pocket-book in 1872, and it became a standard field reference through many revised editions. Its contents range across mensuration, trigonometry, surveying and hydraulics, with a good deal more besides, as the long title suggests. The pages are dense with tables, rules and worked methods of the kind an engineer once carried into the field, before calculators were available.

This is a modern reprint of a public domain edition, so the text keeps the look and limits of a facsimile rather than a freshly edited version. It will suit historians of engineering, collectors of older technical books, and readers who want to see how railways, canals and bridges were calculated by hand.
