The assassin's blade

The twist of a knife. The birth of a legend.
Reading guide
The five novellas are meant to be read in the order they appear, which follows Celaena's story. Because they are prequels, they can be read before the Throne of Glass books for the backstory or by newcomers as a standalone introduction.
Celaena is bound to the Assassin's Guild and to Arobynn Hamel, and she trusts only Sam, a fellow killer for hire. As Arobynn sends her on dangerous missions, she begins acting on her own judgement and starts to question her allegiance and the cost of escaping him.

Description

Celaena Sardothien is already the most feared assassin in her kingdom, but she answers to the Assassin's Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel. This collection of five prequel novellas, running from The Assassin and the Pirate Lord to The Assassin and the Empire, follows her on missions to remote islands and hostile deserts. Each story is a sharp, self-contained adventure, yet together they trace how a gifted young killer begins to choose for herself.

The book fills in the history behind Sarah J. Maas's bestselling Throne of Glass series. It is a rewarding companion for readers who already know Celaena, and a good way in for anyone new to her world.
