# Snuff

Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch is sent to the countryside for a holiday, and he finds a body before he has unpacked. The quiet estates he visits are hiding an old atrocity that the local gentry would rather keep buried, and Vimes is well outside his jurisdiction. The book is the thirty-ninth Discworld novel and the eighth in the City Watch sequence, but the Discworld novels can be read in any order.

Pratchett's comedy arrives quickly, but it rests on a fierce anger at cruelty and a conviction that justice should reach everyone. It suits readers who enjoy comedy with a conscience and need no prior knowledge of the City Watch to follow the story.
