# Dark Tides

The novel moves between London, Venice and New England in Charles II's reign. It opens on Midsummer Eve, 1670, when a wealthy man waits outside a poor London warehouse for Alinor, the woman he failed twenty-one years earlier. He believes she holds the one thing he cannot buy: his son and heir. In New England, Alinor's brother Ned struggles to find justice among settlers turning against one another and against the American Indians.

Then Livia, a widow from Venice, arrives claiming to be Alinor's daughter-in-law and bringing news that Alinor's son Rob has drowned in the lagoon. The publisher describes it as the second novel in the Fairmile series. It suits readers who like history told through ordinary families.
