# Billion-Dollar Ransom

Billion-Dollar Ransom, by James Patterson and Duane Swierczynski, opens with a kidnapping on an unusual scale. Five people are seized at once in different places: two children from a private school bus, a film producer and a movie star at a secluded resort, and a wife from a Beverly Hills street. The kidnappers demand a billion dollars, and a billionaire whose family is among the captives has the cash ready.

FBI agent Nicky Gordon has a plan of her own, and paying the kidnappers is no part of it. Stubborn and brilliant, she takes on a scheme built to be flawless, with five lives at stake. It is a fast, glossy thriller for readers who like their suspense high-stakes and tightly wound.
