# Assassin’s Apprentice

Fitz is the illegitimate son of a crown prince who abdicates in disgrace. Raised in the castle stables of the Six Duchies, he is scorned by nearly everyone, and his few comforts are the king's fool, the ragged children of the lower city and a bond with animals. When the crown finds a use for him, he is trained as an assassin and taught the old magic of the Farseer line.

His tutor, from a rival faction, would rather see Fitz discredited or dead. Told by Fitz himself, it is fantasy built on character rather than spectacle, thick with court intrigue and quiet loneliness. It suits those who like their epic fantasy intimate, with a hero who earns every inch of ground.
