# A Spark of Light

Jodi Picoult's novel is set in a Mississippi clinic, where a lone gunman takes the women and doctors inside hostage. The hostages did not choose to be there, and the story follows the tense negotiation for their release, hour by crucial hour. It is told in reverse, so each chapter takes the reader further back into the day that brought everyone to that moment.

The book is an unflinching look at a controversial subject, following intertwining characters and uncovering their motives as every certainty is questioned. Hodder & Stoughton published it in 2018, and it was a number one Sunday Times bestseller. Readers who enjoy fiction that tests its own moral ground will find plenty to weigh here.
