Breath of Africa

Breath of Africa Volume 1 is a work of historical fiction that explores thirty years of Kenyan history. The narrative follows Caroline, a privileged woman from the highlands, and Charles Ondiek, a laborer aspiring to study at Oxford. Their lives intertwine through Charles's love for Teresa, the daughter of a settler farmer. This relationship triggers a period of psychological terror orchestrated by Mwangi, a former Mau Mau oath administrator.

After six years in detention, Mwangi separates Charles and Teresa before targeting Caroline. Together, Charles and Caroline venture into the hostile desert to find a mysterious ancestral cave and break a lingering curse. As Caroline uncovers the source of Mwangi's hatred, she questions her own place within the nation. This fiction novel examines themes of belonging and resilience against a vivid African backdrop.
