Schuco

Wind-up cars, clockwork figures and pressed-tin mechanisms made Schuco one of the great names among twentieth-century toymakers, and Chris Knox gives the German firm a handsome, generously illustrated survey. Hundreds of new photographs show the toys themselves in close detail, set alongside illustrations taken from Schuco's original catalogues, so you see each piece both as it survives today and as it was first offered for sale.

The result works as a visual record of the company's output and as a guide for anyone who collects, restores or simply admires mechanical tin toys. It is a book for the collector who likes to linger over a lithographed bonnet or a tiny key, and for anyone with a soft spot for the ingenuity of old toys.
