Borderland

Borderland Volume 1 is a juvenile fiction novel that follows Jono, a city-born Indigenous teenager struggling to connect with his community and heritage. After graduating from school in Brisbane, Jono and his friend Jenny secure internships with a documentary crew. They travel to the remote town of Gambari in western Queensland to promote a government mining project on land rumored to be sacred. Jono takes on the role of lead presenter, hoping the experience will provide a sense of meaning and identity.

The atmosphere shifts as Jono experiences suffocating panic attacks and visions of Wudun, a malevolent spirit from the Dreaming. This horror gothic tale explores the dark secrets of the gas mining venture and the consequences of colonization. Jono must rely on his intuition to survive the spiritual unrest of the land. Borderland Volume 1 is a coming-of-age story centered on Indigenous identity and ancestral connection.
