Rani ki Vav Located at the banks of the Saraswati River, Rani ki Vav is an intricately designed step well at Patan, in the Indian state of Gujarat. One of the many brilliant step wells in India (& in Gujarat itself), it was built as a memorial to the 11th Century King Bhimdev I.

Constructed during the reign of the Chalukya dynasty in India, the step well was inducted into the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014. It is said that during some point in its history, it was flooded by and silted over by the nearby Saraswati River.

It remained in that state till early 1980s, when it was excavated and revived by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). However, most of the amazing 7-storied underground structure along with its intricate carvings have been found to be in excellent condition.

Thus, making it one of the most amazing step wells to visit in India. About the series Out of the 1092 UNESCO World Heritage Sites (as of July 2018), Italy has the maximum number with 54.
