Les Les Portes

Les Portes is the first volume of the Caapp Book Prize Ser, written by Meredith Nnoka. This work of poetry and literature and fiction examines how harm against women and femmes persists and evolves across generations. Structured in three movements, the collection utilizes zuihitsu, ekphrasis, and erasure to mirror the fractured experience of trauma.

The narrative follows a queer woman in an abusive marriage who seeks a restorative and non-carceral form of justice. As a piece of regional and cultural poetry, Les Portes focuses on the power of reflection as a form of resistance. Nnoka avoids simple resolutions, instead offering a deep reckoning with the cycle of abuse and the search for a path forward.
