Goetz and Meyer

Goetz and Meyer is a work of historical fiction that examines the atrocities of World War II. The narrative follows two noncommissioned SS officers, Wilhelm Götz and Erwin Meyer, who are tasked with transporting prisoners from a concentration camp near Belgrade in a sealed truck. This literary collection explores the brutal efficiency of the Holocaust and the lasting impact of state sponsored violence.

A Jewish schoolteacher serves as the narrator, uncovering the history of Götz and Meyer while researching the deaths of his own relatives. As the teacher grapples with these horrors, the boundaries between historical reality and his own imaginings blur. He organizes a class trip where the school bus transforms into the officers' truck, merging his students with the lost souls of Belgrade in a solemn act of remembrance.
