About this book
The story
The tin cupboard is the starting point here: fifty recipes built around canned food, each using about five main ingredients and taking roughly half an hour. Inspired by an article in Men's Health, David Joachim's cookbook keeps things cheap, simple and cheerfully unpretentious, with photographs to guide the nervous cook and wipe-clean pages for when the beans go everywhere. There are breakfasts, sandwiches, munchies, desserts and twenty-five dinners, plus whole chapters given over to SpaghettiOs (Egg 'n' Os, a SpaghettiO stir fry) and beer (Game Day Stew, Beer Clams on the Barbie).
Scattered through are fifteen cooking and nutrition tips, and a few dishes meant for impressing someone special. It is a good-humoured first cookbook for a student, a new flat-dweller or anyone who has never got much further than the tin opener.
