About this book
The story
Anyone learning Akkadian soon finds their desk buried under grammars, sign lists and dictionaries. R. Shipp gathers the essentials into one volume meant to sit open beside them: paradigms of nouns and verbs, lists of conjunctions, prepositions and particles with notes on dialect, a documented and cross-referenced glossary of important proper nouns, and an index of logograms. This revised and expanded edition adds a bibliography of reference works in ten categories, including websites. Its sign list follows the new numbering of Borger's Mesopotamisches Zeichenlexikon, is cross-referenced to Deimel, and gives values aligned with MZL and Das akkadische Syllabar.
It does not pretend to replace the standard references, and it works alongside all the major grammars. For students of cuneiform, from the first term onwards, it is the dependable companion that saves hours of searching.
