About this book
The story
Biblical scholarship has long kept its historians and its prophets in separate rooms. These eighteen essays, by members of the Canadian Society for Biblical Studies and gathered by Mark J Boda, set out to open the door between them. The first half looks for prophets inside the Hebrew Bible's historical writing: the Torah, the Deuteronomistic History, Chronicles, Ezra-Nehemiah and later Second Temple histories. The second turns the question round, tracing historical thinking through Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, the Book of the Twelve, Daniel and 1 Enoch.
The contributors work from varied methods, but the shared conclusion is clear: the influence runs both ways. This is a scholarly volume for advanced students and researchers in Hebrew Bible and early Jewish literature who want the two traditions read side by side.
