Flight Lines: A Poetics of Black Space is the first volume of the Errantries series. This work of literary criticism by Elleza Kelley examines how Black people occupy and redefine concepts of space and place. By analyzing African American literature and art, including the works of Zora Neale Hurston and W.E.B. Du Bois, the author explores the creation and preservation of Black epistemologies of space.

The text traces the evolution of racial enclosure from plantations to modern environments. Flight Lines: A Poetics of Black Space, Volume 1, analyzes how surveillance and racial capitalism shape configurations like city blocks, trains, and rooftops. These sites of enclosure are presented as locations where alternative forms of living are enacted and new Black geographies emerge. This scholarly study provides a counter-history of engagement with the built environment.
