Caminos

Caminos Volume 1 is a collection of biographies and memoirs that explores the intricate nature of Mexican American identity. Published by the Center for Mexican American Studies at UT Austin, this work features fourteen writers from diverse professional backgrounds, including journalists, lawyers, and civil rights activists. These contributors use the memoir form to examine the challenges of living in a hyphenated society, focusing on cultural and ethnic studies within the regional U.S. South.

The essays in Caminos Volume 1 address poignant themes of belonging, sexual identity, and the experience of being a person of color in professional environments. These narratives cover personal struggles with illness, loss, and the realities of growing up in segregated communities.
