About this book

The story

Maia D'Aplièse is the eldest of six sisters, each adopted as a baby by the enigmatic Pa Salt and named after a star in the Pleiades. When news of his death calls them home to Atlantis, the family house on the shores of Lake Geneva, each is left a clue to where she came from. Maia's leads her to Rio de Janeiro and a crumbling mansion that holds the story of Izabela Bonifacio, a young woman of the 1920s whose life touches Paris and the building of Christ the Redeemer above the city.

The first of Lucinda Riley's Seven Sisters novels moves between present-day discovery and a sweeping historical romance, with a family mystery threaded through both. It is a generous, absorbing story for anyone who loves dual timelines, faraway settings and the slow uncovering of a family's secrets.
