The Secret Thread

Mimi Caswell has spent decades as a style icon and interiors queen while giving almost nothing of herself away. Now she is leaving Manhattan for London, selling her legendary estate and staging a confessional auction of her life in objects. Her new assistant, Jo, is drawn deep into that glamorous world, and she carries a secret of her own.

As Jo unpicks the stories behind each beautiful possession, Mimi's polished history begins to fray: humble beginnings, an estranged sister, a shattering death at a country house party long ago, and a far darker version of events running beneath it all. Eve Chase, the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Midnight Hour, sets the truth racing against the auctioneer's hammer. A lush, atmospheric mystery for anyone who loves old houses, family secrets and the stories our things keep.
