About this book
The story
Five dresses hanging from the branches of an old oak: that was all that remained in 1926, when the women of New Avalon, a commune of spiritual mediums on an island in Vermont's Lake Faraday, vanished. A century later, struggling actress Marin Keane is cast in a film about the mystery. The part comes with a week's research trip to the island, alongside legendary actress Violet Wright and much-hyped director Ronan Peters.
Strange noises and old symbols soon unsettle the cast, and when a health emergency leaves them stranded, the disappearances begin again. Marin turns to the diary of Daisy Rue, one of the vanished, which tells of a séance gone wrong. This one is for anyone who likes their suspense Gothic and their isolated islands genuinely creepy, never quite sure whether to blame a saboteur or something older.
