The One Who Walked Away

Elle Randolph tracks fugitives for a living, and she is good at it because she knows what it is to run. Years ago she walked away from an accident that killed her abusive husband, and that past has never quite let her go. Now she is deep in the wilderness of Mendocino County on the trail of a wanted man when the manager of the inn where she is staying is found murdered.

Suddenly Elle and her boss, Sara, are persons of interest to local detective Ronan Clarke, who suspects their fugitive may be his killer. Trust is in short supply on both sides, and when a second body appears, Ronan grows sure that Elle is holding something back. A standalone from the Sunday Times bestselling Karen Rose, this one suits anyone who likes their suspense taut and their heroines carrying secrets.
