Environment and Settlement

Environment and Settlement Volume 1 is a detailed archaeology and social science study focusing on the settlement at Vik in the Ørland peninsula. This work examines the period from 600 BC to AD 1250, spanning the Late Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and the early medieval era. The text analyzes how global climatic events, vegetation development, and cultural shifts influenced the farmer-fisher communities inhabiting the region.

The book presents refined results from archaeological excavations conducted at the Ørland main air base between 2014 and 2016. Through thirteen specialized papers, Environment and Settlement Volume 1 explores the spatial and social organization of the built environment. The analysis covers building traditions, subsistence patterns, and landscape use, providing a comprehensive look at the disposal practices and everyday objects of these ancient societies.
