Instead of venturing forth to make new friends, the African-American boy never leaves his front stoop. Everything changes on Halloween night when Thomas puts on his tiger costume and summons the courage to go out trick or treating.

To his surprise, his neighbors know who he is and greet him with a friendly welcome.

They even ask him to come back!
