## About this book

Rouen, 1435. Jacquetta of Luxembourg is left a rich young widow by the death of the Duke of Bedford, and the only friend she has in that great household is his squire, Richard Woodville. Before long they are lovers, then secretly married, and the pair return to the Lancastrian court, where Jacquetta grows close to Margaret, the young queen of Henry VI.

Gregory sets her heroine against a kingdom coming apart: a king lost to a mysterious sleep, a queen leaning on untrustworthy favourites, and Richard, Duke of York, pressing his rival family's claim. Through it all Jacquetta fights for her daughter, Elizabeth Woodville, whose extraordinary future she can already sense. The third Cousins' War novel is rich and absorbing for anyone who likes their history told through the women who lived it.
