Safe Conduct

Safe Conduct is a historical fiction novel set in a decaying German principality during the 1490s. This work of Germany fiction explores a land on the brink of the Reformation, where superstitious masses and a corrupt ruling elite clash. The story centers on a Children's Revolt led by Hans, a charismatic shepherd boy, and Albrecht, a calculating youth seeking legitimacy from the Graf. Together, they lead a band of dissidents and vagrants to build a makeshift fortress, challenging the established social order of the late fifteenth century.

The narrative focuses on the power struggle between the morose Graf and the rebels. While Hans is used as a pawn in Albrecht's pursuit of an inheritance, the novel examines the tension between medieval pagan rituals and the emerging intellectual freedom of the Renaissance.
