## About this book

The holidaymakers have left South Devon and the lanes are quiet again when builders renovating Sycamore House break through a wall and find a mummified body. It belongs to Dr Aleric Donnal, a scholar of the county's medieval past who vanished over a decade ago, when the house was home to a new age commune convinced it stood on an ancient sacred site.

While DI Wesley Peterson hunts for suspects, archaeologist Neil Watson is excavating the ruins of a nearby chapel once covered in grotesque carvings of mythical beasts. Then a second killing in a neighbouring village raises the question of a link. Kate Ellis, a million-copy bestselling author, weaves folklore, archaeology and police work together with a sure hand. A satisfying new Wesley Peterson case for anyone who likes their crime rooted in landscape and history.
