About this book
The story
The Kids in Mrs. Z's Class: Fia Hosein Finds Her Beat is volume 12 of a charming children's fiction series. This chapter book follows Fia Hosein, a young girl who moved from Trinidad and Tobago to the town of Peppermint Falls. While she enjoys her new home, Fia notices her Trinidadian accent beginning to fade. This change leaves her feeling disconnected from her identity as she struggles to regain her voice.
When Mrs. Z assigns a verbal presentation, Fia faces the challenge of speaking in front of her third grade classmates. This story explores themes of family life, friendship, and social skills as Fia seeks a sound that feels authentic. With help from her teachers and parents, she learns to navigate the complexities of growing up. This literature and fiction title focuses on the importance of heritage and confidence in school.
