About this book
The story
Written by his own brother, the surgeon James Carrick Moore, this life of Sir John Moore carries the closeness of family memory: the author speaks of testimonials he has carefully kept, and notes small personal details such as Horace becoming the general's favourite classic. Moore is remembered as one of the most admired British soldiers of the Napoleonic era, killed at Corunna in 1809, and this first of two volumes sets out the man behind the reputation.
The Forgotten Books edition is a facsimile of the original, digitally restored, so the occasional blemish of the old printing may remain. It suits anyone drawn to the British army of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and anyone who likes biography written by someone who knew its subject well.
